Program Targets Pa.’s Unemployed

The Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission, Southern Alleghenies Workforce Investment Board and the PA CareerLinks® have received $50,000 to help unemployed workers in the six-county Workforce Investment Area finish their associate’s or bachelor’s degrees. Unemployed individuals needing 30 credits or less to complete their postsecondary education should contact their local PA CareerLink® immediately to speak with a career counselor about adult degree completion opportunities.

The PA Department of Labor and Industry is providing the funding to pilot a project in Pennsylvania that includes the local workforce investment area along with the Westmoreland/Fayette Workforce Investment Area, St. Francis University, Penn Highlands Community College, Seton Hill University and Westmoreland County Community College. Other postsecondary educational institutions may be added in the future, so all interested persons should contact the PA CareerLink® closest to them. Eligible individuals could receive 75 percent of the degree completion costs up to $6,000. More information may be obtained by contacting the following:
