Margaret I. Barton Wells Tannery, 87

Margaret Irene (Mearkle) Barton, 87, Wells Tannery, Pa., died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Pennknoll Village.

She was born September 9, 1924, in Breezewood, Pa., East Providence Township, a daughter of the late Albert H. and Harriet Jane (Porter) Markle. She was the widow of Shannon H. Barton. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1976.

She is survived by two children: Dennis W. Barton of Wells Tannery and Darlene Meyer and Gary of Ruther Glen, Va.; a stepson, Shannon Jr. Barton and Karole of Wells Tannery; two grandchildren: Shawn Divelbliss and Ella of Ruther Glen, Va., and Rodawn Divelbliss of Philadelphia, Pa.; three great-granddaughters: Cierra, Danielle and Kyndal Divelbliss of Ruther Glen, Va.; adopted granddaughter, Renee Barton of Dudley, Pa.; and several stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Edna H. Colledge, Kenneth Markle and William Markle.

She was a member of Wells Valley United Methodist Church.

She worked in Baltimore at the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Co. and also was department manager of Montgomery Wards before moving back to Pennsylvania where she then waitressed at Howard Johnson’s for 18 years, later retiring from Seton Co. in Saxton in 1989.

She was a member of Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Bedford Lodge No. 517, VFW Auxiliary No. 6241, Mercersburg where she served as past president.

She enjoyed working with her flowers, loved going shopping and spending time with her family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Wells Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Ken Grunden officiated. Burial was in Wells Valley Cemetery, Wells Tannery.
