FFA Members Attend Convention
Several McConnellsburg FFA members attended FFA’s summer convention June 12 through June 14 to compete in various contests, take part in conference sessions and elect Pennsylvania FFA state officers for 2012-2013.
DeAnne Dickerson competed in the talent competition, placed second and entertained the audience with her rendition of Lady Antebellum’s song: “ Never Alone” at Wednesday night’s convention session. DeAnne is hoping that her application to compete in FFA’s National Talent Competition is accepted for this October.
Members DeAnne Dickerson, Grace Youngblood, and Sara Wenschhof competed in the small animal veterinary skills contest, where they identified various breeds of dogs, cats and other small animals and presented a marketing plan for opening a veterinary office to the judges.
Ashley Penwell, Cody Trail and Tyler Long competed in the aquatics contest, where they had to identify various aquatic species and determine the physical and chemical properties of a stream. The chapter’s scrapbook, prepared by chapter members throughout the year, received a gold award for the second year in a row.
Students were able to meet FFA members from across the state and renew friendships with others they had met at previous conferences. “It was a great time!” exclaimed sophomore Youngblood. “I improved my performance in the vet skills contest from last year. That was really good,” added sophomore Wenschhof. “ I missed last year,” stated Trail. “I’m glad I could go again this year.”
