Storms Cut Power To Thousands In Western Pa.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – About 11,000 electric customers in western Pennsylvania are still without power after intense thunderstorms that swept through the area overnight.

West Penn Power reports that about 5,400 customers in Washington County were without power Saturday night, as were nearly 3,200 customers in Fayette County and about 1,800 in Greene County.

Bob Coblentz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Pittsburgh Post- Gazette that the storms caused damage “pretty much everywhere.”

He called the storm a “derecho” – a straight-line windstorm more common in the Midwest.
