Nellie A. Howells Windber, 98

Mrs. Nellie A. Howells, 98, Windber, Pa., died June 21, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.

Born April 18, 1914, in Paint Township, she was the daughter of the late Lewis C. and Roxie E. (Johns) Penrod.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Howells; and brothers and sisters: Clair E. Penrod, Helen E. Hiers, William R. Penrod, Marian C. Priquette and Robert L. Penrod.

Surviving are the following children: Patricia L., wife of Albert R. Corman, Hustontown; Harry W., married to former Diane D’Onofrio, Bradenton; and Thomas L., married to the former Melinda Hamil, McConnellsburg; 10 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren and five greatgreat grandchildren; sister, Charlotte L. Astalos, N. Huntingdon, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Windber High School and Shippensburg University.

She was a teacher for 26 years in WASD.

She was a member of Windber Church of the Brethren where she was a deaconess. She was a life member of PA Retired Teachers Asoc., auxiliary to the Brethren Home and Somerset Retired Teachers Assoc. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She was an outstanding inspiration and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Windber Church of the Brethren. Rev. Royden Airesman officiated. Interment was at Berkey Cemetery.

Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, was in charge of arrangements.
