Driver, Passengers Flee Crash Scene
The driver of a 1996 Chevrolet 1500 and his two passengers fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident along Little Egypt Road on Saturday, June 2.
Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg said Darry D. Chilcote, 21, of St. Thomas, lost control of the southbound truck while travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle ran off the western berm of the Licking Creek Township roadway at 2: 45 a. m. and struck a guiderail.
Police further noted the truck drove through a yard and overturned into a creek.
Chilcote and passengers Derek S. Mellott, 19, of Needmore, and a 16-year-old girl from Crystal Spring were all wearing seat belts. Both passengers suffered minor injuries. All three fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Chilcote will be cited by state police with driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds.
Three Injured In Roll Over
Three Chesapeake, Va., residents suffered minor injuries when their vehicle rolled over along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 last Tuesday.
According to state police reports, Kari L. Bruce’s 1999 Isuzu Trooper travelled into the grassy median strip at 1:10 p.m. before crossing onto the berm of the oncoming westbound lanes. Bruce was able to get the vehicle back into the median and headed eastbound before it rolled over.
Police said the left westbound lane was closed for approximately 20 minutes following the June 12 accident.
Bruce and her passengers, Samuel L. Bruce and a 1-year- old male, were all wearing seat belts or secured in a child safety seat. Kari Bruce and the juvenile were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va, by Washington County EMS.
Kari Bruce will be charged by state police with driving on roadways laned for traffic. State police were assisted on the scene by Town Hill Towing and the Needmore Volunteer Fire Co.
Harassment Charges Filed
Charges of harassment have been filed by state police against 21-year-old Mc- Connellsburg resident Michael Frederick Shives. Shives is accused of grabbing an 18-year-old McConnellsburg man by the arm on Friday, June 8, at 12:30 p.m. The alleged harassment reportedly occurred at 227 North First Street in McConnellsburg Borough. Shives has been charged through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
Two Vehicles Collide in Ayr Township
Three individuals escaped injury on Wednesday, June 13, when two vehicles collided along Union Church Road.
Forty-seven-year-old Mc- Connellsburg resident Ty R. Daniels was attempting to turn left into a private driveway at 4 p.m. when he failed to yield to an oncoming 1992 Saturn SL1. The eastbound Saturn operated by Garrett M. Kenyon, 30, also of Mc- Connellsburg, struck the passenger side rear wheel area of Daniels’ 1999 Ford Ranger.
Kenyon was able to drive his truck from the accident scene in Ayr Township. Kenyon, Daniels and Kenyon’s passenger, William C. Drenning, 34, McConnellsburg, were all wearing seat belts. Daniels will be cited by state police for vehicles turning left.
DUI Charges Filed In 2011 Crash
Pennsylvania State Police from the McConnellsburg barracks have filed charges of driving under the influence and underage drinking against a former southern Fulton County man.
Police have charged Derek Ryan Younker in connection with the single-vehicle accident that occurred along Timber Ridge Road on December 20, 2011. The 2:13 a.m. crash occurred when Younker’s southbound 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt travelled across the oncoming lane of traffic. The car continued through a field and overturned onto its roof.
Younker, who was not wearing a seat belt, had his head pinned beneath the car after coming through the sunroof, police said. He was flown from the scene by Lifenet helicopter.
Police added that medical results in the case were received from Meritus Health Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md. Charges are filed through Magisterial District Judge Tamela Bard.
Access Device Fraud Reported
A 53-year- old McConnellsburg woman informed state police investigators her debit card information was recently used to make two fraudulent purchases on the Apple i-Tunes Web site. The transactions occurred at noon on June 5. Anyone having additional information pertinent to this case should call state police Trooper Doriguzzi at 717-485-3131.
Two Cited For Harassment
Two McConnellsburg residents face harassment charges as a result of a dispute that turned physical in the parking lot of McDonald’s on Monday, June 11.
Pennsylvania State Police from the McConnellsburg barracks reported Andrea Marie Conover, 18, and a 17- year- old male have been charged in connection for the incident. Conover allegedly punched the juvenile in the face twice, police said. The male allegedly responded by chasing after the woman, grabbing her by the neck and pushing her into the bushes.
Six Mile Run Man Uninjured
A Six Mile Run, Pa., man escaped harm during a single vehicle accident caused by a deer along Route 30 on Friday, June 15.
According to state police reports, the 6:05 a.m. accident occurred as 43-year-old Shannon Paul Foster was travelling eastbound through Brush Creek Township. Foster’s 2001 Ford Taurus clipped a white-tailed deer before coming to a rest over a small embankment.
Foster was waring a seat belt. State police were assisted on the scene by Interstate Towing.
Theft From Vehicle Reported
A 21-year- old McConnellsburg woman told state police thieves removed several items from the center console of her vehicle that was parked on the 100 block of North First Street in the borough.
The theft is believed to have occurred between 8 p.m. on June 13 and 2 p.m. on June 14. Among the items taken from the blue, fourdoor sedan were credit cards and identification cards. Anyone with further information linked to this theft from a motor vehicle is asked to immediately call state police Trooper Remeikas at 717-485-3131.
Driver Falls Asleep
Two Ligonier, Pa., residents were uninjured when their westbound 2002 Ford F-250 struck an embankment along Intertstate 70.
State police reports indicate the June 17 accident occurred when Charles R. Greene Jr., 64, fell asleep while travelling through Brush Creek Township. The truck travelled onto the berm where it ran into an embankment, said police. The vehicle then went into a large ditch before crossing both lanes of travel and crashed into a guiderail.
Greene and his passenger, Thomas W. Gross, 65, were both wearing seat belts. Greene will be charged with careless driving. State police were assisted on the scene by Town Hill Towing.
Man Pushed To Ground
Pennsylvania State Police from the McConnellsburg barracks have filed charges of harassment against 50-yearold Mount Union resident Howard Lee Fortson. Fortson, police reports allege, pushed a 52-year-old man from McConnellsburg to the ground during an argument outside 635 East Maple Street on June 16. The victim suffered minor injuries to his elbows and lower back during the 10:40 p.m. incident. Charges against Fortson have been filed through Magisterial District Judge Wendy Mellott.
DUI Arrest Made
State police in McConnellsburg have charged a New Holland, Pa., man with driving under the influence following an incident along Hollow Road in Taylor Township over the weekend.
On Saturday, June 16, state police found Helmut Karl Leis Jr., 55, sitting behind the wheel of his vehicle with the keys in the ignition and the motor running. Police added the discovery was made after Leis allegedly imbibed a “sufficient amount of alcohol to render him incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle.”
Charges against Leis have been filed through Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne.
Man Accused Of Striking Juvenile
A 31-year-old Big Cove Tannery man has been accused of harassment following an incident at 160 Chainsaw Drive in Ayr Township.
Pennsylvania State Police from the McConnellsburg barracks said Justin Lee Thomas grabbed a fishing pole from a 12-year-old boy from Big Cove Tannery at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Thomas then allegedly struck the boy in the back with a closed fist as well as on the right elbow with the fishing pole.
The victim sought medical attention at Fulton County Medical Center. State police were dispatched to assist with the matter.
Vehicle Tire Explodes
The front right tire of a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS blew out, causing the vehicle to careen into a bridge railing along Route 30. Driver Megan M. Marker, 26, of Somerset, was not injured during the 11:20 a.m. crash on June 10, state police said. She was wearing a seat belt.
Two Charged In Altercation
Pennsylvania State Police from McConnellsburg will be citing two individuals with harassment as a result of a physical altercation at 3060 Stoneybreak Road in Bethel Township. To be charged in connection with the alleged fight on Sunday, June 17, are William Christopher Holt, 36, of Warfordsburg, and 38-yearold Hancock, Md., resident Catherine Ann Gossert.
Juvenile Took Vehicle
Pennsylvania State Police have accused a 15-year-old Warfordsburg boy of taking a vehicle for a drive without the owner’s consent. The juvenile allegedly took the vehicle from 607 Franklin Mills Road on June 13 at 3 a.m. and was gone for around seven hours. He has since been arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving without a license.
