John H. Gracey Waterfall, 80
John H. Gracey, 80, Waterfall, Pa. died at 9:10 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his home.
Born January 1, 1932, at New Grenada, he was a son of the late Raymond and Velma (Henry) Gracey. He was married to the former Mary L. Kauffman on March 3, 1961, at Hagerstown, Md. She survives at their home.
Also surviving are two children: Steve Gracey and wife Lisa of Hustontown; Joni Park and husband Andy of Ft. Littleton; five grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Donahue of Waterfall, and one brother, Edward Gracey of New Grenada.
One son, Johnny R. Gracey; one brother, Robert Gracey and two sisters: Doris Howard and Phyllis Robertson preceded him in death.
He attended New Grenada Church of God, Waterfall.
He was a member of Forbes Road Lions Club, the National Rifle Association, the St. Thomas Sportsman’s Club and the Fulton Co. Pistol and Rifle Club. He retired in 1992 as a forest ranger, having first worked at the former CC Camp at Wells Tannery and later at Sideling Hill.
He competed in the Boston Marathon twice, the Iron Man Triathalon in Hawaii in 1985 and won a gold medal in Venice, Hungary with the U. S. Crossbow Team. He was active in crosscountry skiing, the biathalon and pole vaulting at the Keystone Games and the Senior Games. He was a PA state champion in smallbore rifle shooting. He was very proud of his dog, “Chipper,” which he trained to be a therapy dog.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U. S. Army.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at New Grenada Church of God, Waterfall. Rev. Kenneth Cornelius officiated. Interment was at Center Cemetery, Waterfall.
M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, was in charge of arrangements.
