Concert Handbell Choir To Perform
The St. Luke Concert Handbell Choir is one of six handbell choirs from St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gales Ferry, Conn., and is comprised of all high school students. Their repertoire includes a wide variety of sacred, classical and popular music. They play five octaves of handbells and five octaves of melody chimes. The handbell program at St. Luke begins in the third and fourth grades, so all of the concert handbell choir ringers have been ringing for more than five years.
The choir has a rich performance history: In June of 2001 it performed the opening concert for a handbell festival in front of an audience of more than 800 ringers. It has toured England twice, played in the U. S. Coast Guard Band’s Christmas program as well as numerous other area festivals.
The choirs stop at Cedar Grove is a part of their summer tour of Pennsylvania that also includes playing at Hersheypark and churches in the York County area.
Previous summer tours took the choir to the Midwest (2005), to Washington, D.C., including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (2006), to Northern New England (2007) and to southern Florida, including a performance at Epcot (2008) down the East Coast to South Carolina (2010) and to Maine (2011). In 2009 the choir recorded a CD of Christmas music, “Ring In The Season.”
All are welcome to attend.
