Fire Destroys Pa. Home, Kills 96-Year-Old Man
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) – Fire investigators in central Pennsylvania are trying to find out what started an early morning blaze that destroyed a home and claimed the life of an elderly man.
Lancaster County officials told the (Lancaster) Sunday News that the Manor Township blaze was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities said 96-yearold Luther Killian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire Commissioner Duane Hagelgans said the victim used a wheelchair and was unable to escape by himself.
He said a woman ran to a neighbor’s seeking help but the flames prevented them from getting into the building.
The home, declared a total loss valued at $210,000, was deemed a hazard and demolished later in the day.
Lancaster County Coroner Stephen Diamantoni said an autopsy on the victim is scheduled Monday.
