Decorated Hats Compete For “Top Hat” Titles
Men’s Winner Ashton Doyle The hat contest held Friday evening at the Fulton Theatre during the Chamber of Commerce & Tourism’s annual Strawberry Festival saw a number of decorated, themed hats vying for “top hat” honors in five categories: Kentucky Derby, floral fantasy, Mad Hatter, vintage (pre-1965) and men’s – No caps! No camo!
A first-time event at the Strawberry Festival, the contest was organized by Mrs. Teabody (aka Lin Henry), proprietress of Tickle Your Fancy, a gift and tea shop located along Lincoln Way West in downtown McConnellsburg. Judging the hats were Inez Eddy and Sherry Metz.
Contestants were each given a special hat-wearing strawberry button designed by Eddy’s Engraving to commemorate their participation, and prizes were awarded to the winners. Contestants also enjoyed refreshments that included, of course, a variety of teas.
Vintage Winner Christy Willingham Mrs. Teabody says she plans to make the Strawberry Festival Hat Contest an annual event
