“Cooter Davenport” To Visit Hagerstown Speedway June 9
“Breaker one, Breaker one, I might be crazy but I ain’t dumb, Craaaazy Cooter comin’ atcha, any y’all Dukes out there on the Hazzard net? Come on.”
Yes, Ben Jones who is better know as “Cooter Davenport” from the “Dukes of Hazzard” is making a visit to Hagerstown Speedway Saturday, June 9. Jones was the talented mechanic, tow truck driver and sometimes know as an “ honorary duke” in the popular television show that started in 1978. Jones is also the founder of the original “Dukesfest,” a musician, having appeared at the Grand Ole Opry, and resides on a quiet farm in Virginia with his wife, Alma. He also served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Georgia‘s 4th District from 1989-1993.
Jones will be appearing at the speedway from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine. Grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. Admission is $5. “Cooter” will be available for autographs and photos and is bringing a “General Lee” with him. The world famous “01,” a 1969 Dodge Charger, was as much a character in the television series as the characters themselves. Picture can be taken with the “General Lee” as well.
Racing will begin at 7 p.m. with a doubleheader “Steel Block Bandit” event, plus Pure Stocks and Hobby Stocks.
Hagerstown Speedway is located six miles west of Hagerstown on Route 40.
