Car Goes Off Road, Through Billboard; 3 Killed
NEW PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (AP) – Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania say a compact car went out of control on a rain-slicked road, went through a billboard and struck a tree, killing three people.
State police in Schuylkill County say the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon was traveling too fast for conditions on Route 61 in Blythe Township and left the road at about 1:25 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the coupe hit a guardrail and went airborne, passed completely through a large billboard, hit a tree and came to rest upside down at the base of the tree.
Police said 19-year- old Shawn Centeleghe of Friedensburg, 23-year-old Jason Engleman of Pottsville, and a 16-year-old Pottsville girl were all killed. Another 16-year- old girl from New Philadelphia had an injury that was not life-threatening. None of the victims were wearing seat belts.
