Chamber’s Strawberry Festival Begins Friday
The 22nd annual Strawberry Festival returns this weekend to the county courthouse campus, June 8 and 9. There will be lots of strawberry treats featured under the chamber tent: shortcake, pies, cheese cake, waffles and ice cream. Many other delicious food items can also be found at various booth locations along West Market Street.
The McConnellsburg Fire Co. is sponsoring a firemen’s parade and a classic car show. The parade begins on Saturday at noon and moves from the Fulton County Fairgrounds and arrives at the festival site. Weather permitting, the car show kicks off Saturday morning.
Earlier on Saturday, the firstever
Strawberry Stampede 5K Run & Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. in the courthouse square. At noon on Friday, and again after the parade on Saturday, the Jan Fraker group, “Old Friends,” will entertain festival-goers with a variety of musical selections.
Besides food vendors, West Market Street presents a wide variety of vendors and displays for all to explore. Returning after being a popular attraction at last year’s Fall Folk Festival is the “Puppenmister.” Each day he is presenting four shows for the children to enjoy.
The baby and toddler contest winners are to be announced on Saturday afternoon after the parade at approximately 2 p.m. The kindergarten and first-grade coloring contest winners will be on display. Also, the annual recipe contest winners are to be announced. Other contest winners to be determined, are: the window decorating and the strawberry capping. New this year is the hat contest sponsored by Tickle Your Fancy Gift & Tea Shop to be held in the Fulton Theatre at 5 p.m. Friday.
