The rain showers we have been receiving are giving us a break from the hot weather of several weeks.

A large crowd attended the auction at Hustontown Firehall Saturday evening. The folks were glad to be able to buy lots of green vegetables and other food items.

The annual Strawberry Festival in McConnellsburg will be Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9.

Happy birthday wishes to Mat Mundorff on June 13.

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Kenneth Geesman Jr., who passed away last week.

June Bennett and the bowling team of Carlisle spent Saturday and Sunday at a tournament in Johnstown.

The family reunion of the Kate Berkstresser and the late Herbert Berkstresser will be held Sunday, June 17, at Forbes Road Lions Park. Family and relatives are invited to attend. Come bring a covered dish and enjoy the afternoon. Meal will be served at 1 p.m. Games and horseshoe pitching and softball also will be held.

Household Hint: Steel wool pad saves. Don’t throw out that half-used steel wool pad. You can save it from rusting by putting it in a solution of water and baking soda. The soda acts as a rust inhibitor. Change the soda water solution every so often to keep it fresh and keep the solution covered to prevent evaporation.
