Receives Scholarship

Indiana University of Pennsylvania exercise science– pre-physical therapy major Jesse Smartt recently received the 2012 Dr. Eugene E. Lepley Memorial Scholarship.

The memorial scholarship, established in 1990, is in honor of Dr. Lepley for his many contributions in the promotion of health and fitness to both the university and Indiana community.

Smartt of Needmore and a 2009 graduate of Southern Fulton High School, received a $1,250 scholarship awarded to the student who best demonstrates personal and academic excellence and exhibits, by personnel example, a lifestyle suited to the promotion of physical fitness, health and wellness.

He is the son of Scott and Karen Newbaker- Smartt, and has also received such honors as being named a 2011 Provost Scholar, dean’s list recipient throughout all semesters at IUP and currently holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
