Local Athletes Place At District Track
McConnellsburg and Southern Fulton had several athletes not only participate at last Wednesday’s District 5 track and field championships but medal in their specialty areas.
McConnellsburg’s Nikki Fleming continued to put forth a strong effort and won the gold medal in the girls high jump. Teammate
Jessica Nero finished in the top three in the javelin with a third-place medal, and Merissa Grey was second in the 300 hurdles.
Southern Fulton’s dynamic duo of sisters Jenna and Macey Hollenshead competed well for the Lady Indians. Jenna was third in the 1600 meter and second in the 3200 meter, while Macey was second in the 1600 and third in the 3200. Courtney Strait rounded out the meet with a second-place victory in the javelin.
McConnellsburg, SF Athletes Participate At Districts
Numerous athletes representing the McConnellsburg and Southern Fulton school districts took to the field last Wednesday at Loysburg in hopes of bringing home the gold at the District 5 track and field championships.
McConnellsburg’s Ryan Stoeckle did just that, bringing home two firstplace medals in shot put and discus, which he has dominated locally throughout the season. Teammate Corey Hill placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Meanwhile, Southern Fulton’s Jacob Ashkettle had a strong performance running a leg for the second place 800 relay team comprised of Josh Voight, Tyler Richards and Briar Kirk. Ashkettle also finished first in the 400 meter, while teammate Dylan Cross garnered a secondplace victory in the pole vault. In addition, Kirk was third in the 1600 meter. Steven Meyer was successful bringing home the gold, winning the javelin, and Indian Luke Wright followed with a close second-place finish.
