McConnellsburg’s Evan Appleby was a team leader from the mound and from the plate Monday evening when the Spartans rallied for a 14-3 win over Salisbury during a District 5-A play-in game. Appleby’s pitching record increased to 3-3 after the senior starter tallied two strikeouts, one walk, three hits and one earned run. Appleby also hit a home run in the third inning. Teammate Dalton Garlock batted twofor four with two RBIs, and Caleb Christy and Darren McQuade each added two hits. Tristin Deneen scored three times during the matchup.

Southern Fulton 9

Meyersdale 2

Southern Fulton clinched its fifth consecutive win Saturday, easily downing Meyersdale 9-2 in seven innings. Pitcher Seth Hall bumped his season record to 7-2 after having posted three strikeouts, two walks, seven hits and one earned run. Tristan Douglas went two-for-three with a double and three runs scored. Teammate Zane Baker batted two-for-four with two runs, three RBIs and a double. Hall, Connor Litton and Noah Smartt chipped in with doubles as well.

Chestnut Ridge 0

Pitcher Caleb Christy finished Friday’s matchup with a no-hitter, leading the Mc- Connellsburg Spartans on to a 15-0 win over Chestnut Ridge. Christy also added one strikeout and three walks during the Sideling Hill League game. Evan Appleby was three-for-three at the plate with a double and four RBIs, and Jesse Swope went two-for-two with both a double and triple. Darren Mc- Quade also had a double for the Spartans.

Fannett-Metal 1

Continued from a game earlier in the month, the Forbes Road Cardinals came to play and win last Wednesday, easily downing Fannett- Metal 13-1. Dylan Black led his teammates at the plate batting four-for-four with two RBIs and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Ryan Hann had a two-run double and teammate Kyle Schoen connected for a three-run homer. Pitcher Casey Wade clinched his third victory of the season with nine strikeouts, one walk and one hit.

Forbes Road 3

Forbes Road saw its three-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt last Thursday night when Evan Appleby and Jesse Swope combined for eight hits to lead McConnellsburg to victory. During the 12-3 Sideling Hill League win, Appleby connected for two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Swope had a double and two RBIs. Teammates Caleb Christy went three-forfive with two doubles, and Bo Wilson batted two-forfour. Pitcher Cody Truax earned the win, recording five strikeouts, two walks, one hit and one earned run. Forbes Road pitcher Tristan Gelvin took the loss with nine strikeouts, four walks, 10 hits and six earned runs.

Tussey Mountain 0

Forbes Road eked out a win over Tussey Mountain last Thursday night, handing the Sideling Hill League’s top pitcher a 1-0 loss. Ryan Hann scored the only run for the Cardinals on an unearned run in the third inning. Pitcher Dylan Black added to his perfect season record, scattering only four hits during the league matchup.

Southern Fulton 12

Meyersdale 0

Having competed against and lost to Meyersdale by one-run days earlier, Southern Fulton avenged the loss with a 12-0 win during Monday’s District 5-A play-in game. Pitcher Kelsey White rallied to lead her team to victory with four strikeouts, three walks and five hits over a period of six innings. Callie Horton batted two-for-three with the Lady Indians’ only extra base hit, a triple. Marley Elbin also added two hits, and Maddie Mellott had three hits and four RBIs.

Chestnut Ridge 5

McConnellsburg pushed a base runner across homeplate in the seventh inning last Friday, edging out Chestnut Ridge by the final score of 6-5. Pitcher Alexus Mellott picked up her second win of the season during the Sideling Hill League game with one strikeout, three walks, nine hits and three earned runs. Gabby Danner batted three-for-four and scored three times, and Nicki Mc- Quade added a pair of hits and scored twice. Courtney DeShong finished with a two-run single.

Southern Fulton 3

Southern Fulton’s seventh inning comeback fell short Saturday with Meyersdale eking out a 4-3 win over the Lady Indians. Maddie Mellott and Jordan Deneen both connected for two hits each, while teammates Marley Elbin and Kelsey White each had a double. Elbin finished seven innings with eight strikeouts, four walks, four hits and one earned run.

Fannett-Metal’s Blaire Lauthers struck out 10 batters last Wednesday and held the Forbes Road Cardinals scoreless for a 12-0 Sideling Hill League victory. Braylin Hohman took the loss for the Lady Cardinals, lasting two innings with 11 walks, one hit and nine earned runs. Haley Lashinksy came in to relieve Hohman and tallied two strikeouts, four hits and one earned run in three innings.

In spite of the fact Gabby Danner recorded no earned runs and no walks as well as six strikeouts, the McConnellsburg Lady Spartans ended last Wednesday’s match against Chestnut Ridge in a 3-1 loss. Meanwhile, Danner scored the team’s only run on a RBI single by Courtney DeShong.

Forbes Road’s Corri Parsons led her teammates at the plate, while pitcher Haley Lashinsky led the defensive effort for the Cardinals, who ousted McConnellsburg 11-3 last Thursday. Parsons connected for a two-run homer in the third inning. Lashinsky and Sam Clippinger also connected for doubles, and Braylin Hohman had a perfect day at the plate batting three-for-three with a double. Lashinsky closed out the game striking out seven batters and giving up one walk, two hits and only one earned run. McConnellsburg’s Gabby Danner took the loss with one strikeout, six hits and six earned runs.

Tussey Mountain 18

Forbes Road 0

Forbes Road closed out its season with a record of 5- 13 Thursday night, impressive after the Lady Cardinals were unable to pick up a win during the 2011 spring season. Losing to Tussey Mountain 18-0 during the second game of a doubleheader, Braylin Hohman lasted a little more than four innings with six strikeouts, five walks, 13 hits and 14 earned runs.
