Fireman’s Parade Set For June 9
Due to the efforts and planning of the McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., a new event has been added to the schedule of events for the annual Strawberry Festival headed by the Fulton County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
A fireman’s parade and car show are slated to head up the array of events for Saturday’s portion of the upcoming June 8-9 festival at McConnell Park.
Judging for the car show and parade on June 9, according to parade Chairman Gary Peck, will get under way at the Fulton County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. The judging will wrap up at 11 a.m. and be followed by a parade beginning at noon.
The parade will kick off at the fairgrounds, head west on Lincoln Way and end on First Street, Peck said. Prizes will be awarded in three categories – fire equipment; marching units and bands; and floats, cars, horses and miscellaneous entries.
In an additional prize breakdown, first- and second-place awards will be presented for engines 1250 GPM and over as well as 1000 GPM and under. First- and second-place prizes will also be given for tankers; rescue or squad units; aerial devices; brush, utility or special units; and BLS ambulance. First-place-only awards will be awarded for best ALS ambulance and antique unit.
Peck noted the company travelling the longest distance is slated to be recognized as well as the company best represented in the parade lineup. In addition to awarding trophies, $20 will be given to each participating piece of fire apparatus in attendance.
