Medical Center Auxiliary Holds Meeting

Fulton County Medical Center auxiliary met Monday, May 7, 2012 in the activities room of medical center to discuss recent activities and work on the details of several fundraisers scheduled for spring and summer months.

On Friday, May 18, the auxiliary invites everyone to enjoy a meal or snack at Lincoln Way Pizza. Owner Jason Ritchey will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to the auxiliary.

On Saturday, June 16, the auxiliary will once again hold a carwash with a bake and crafts sale at Thomas’s on Rt. 522 north. The bake sale will begin at 7 a.m. and the carwash at 8 a.m. Youth volunteers from the local area are teaming up with the auxiliary and with Thomas to provide the carwashes. The cost of the carwash is a donation to the auxiliary. Proceeds, including a donation from Thomas’s, will be used to support auxiliary sponsored projects.

Recent fundraisers included a quilt raffle held in conjunction with the FCMC Foundation auction May 5. More than 500 tickets, including many in the Corner Gift Shop, were sold. The beautiful quilt, which was displayed in the lobby of the Medical Center for several months, was donated to the auxiliary by the Quilt Club. Patti Hess was the winner of the quilt.

A bake and crafts sale was also held in the lobby of the Medical Center Friday, May 11. A good selection of homemade baked goods was offered along with popular crafts items. Sharon Dougherty won the raffle, which was a set of African violets donated by Faye Elvey.

There was a great response to the book fair held April 5.

Some of the proceeds from the fundraisers have been used this year for the purchase of equipment for the Medical Center. Six transport chairs were purchased to be used by patients and visitors. The chairs are easy to use and are stackable so take less storage space. At the May 7 meeting the auxiliary approved the purchase of a NuStep exercise machine for the rehabilitation center and wellness program.

In April Easter baskets were once again provided for the long-term-care residents.

In addition to financial support, members enjoy helping with activities organized for long-term-care residents – transporting residents for beauty shop twice a week, for the monthly barber shop and for weekly church service as regularly scheduled activities. Auxiliary members are also helping to staff the Corner Gift Shop.

In recent months the auxiliary has welcomed several new members. They encourage area residents of all ages to join in for some good times and be a part of efforts to support Fulton County Medical Center. An application is available on the Web at http://www.fcmcpa.org/auxili ary. html or pick up a brochure in the lobby of the hospital.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 4, at 10 a.m. in the activities room of the Medical Center. The annual appreciation luncheon will take place at the Medical Center resident dining room following that meeting. Watch the Community Bulletin Board in the Fulton County News for notices of meetings and other activities during 2012.

Officers are Sally Cover, president; Judy Eisaman, vice president; Nancy Younker, recording secretary; Linda Garber, corresponding secretary; Carol Mellott, treasurer; and Faye Elvey is membership chair.
