Man Charged In Mother’s Stabbing
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) – A man has been charged with stabbing his mother to death in the living room of the Allentown home they shared two days before Mother's Day.
Rafael Tirado, 38, was charged with criminal homicide in the death of 64-yearold Gloria Santiago on Friday, The (Allentown) Morning Call said.
The victim’s son-in-law, Danny Guadalupe, called it “completely shocking.” Neighbors said a man was seen acting erratically outside earlier Friday.
Police answering a domestic violence call found the victim on the floor with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. Friday. Authorities said Tirado was also treated at a hospital.
Family members gathered at the home Saturday were trying to make sense of the slaying.
Guadalupe said Tirado had been treated at mental health facilities since he was a teenager. He said his motherin law often pulled her son out of facilities to care for him herself. Police and prosecutors declined comment on Tirado's mental status or what led to the slaying, the paper said.
Guadalupe said his mother in-law, a native of Puerto Rico, sang in a church choir and would collect old clothes from relatives and deliver them to needy people while vacationing in Mexico.
