MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES
The annual Memorial Day services for Buck Valley will be held Sunday, May 27 at the Christian Church at 9 a.m. and proceeding to the Hendershot cemetery, from there to the Brethren Church at Amaranth, then to the Lutheran Church and ending at the Methodist Church for services at 11 a.m. Speaker will be Lynn Rohm.
Memorial Day tribute services for McConnellsburg and surrounding area will be held Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m., at Union Cemetery. Selections will be by McConnellsburg High School Spartan Band and memorial address will be given by Col. Jeffrey D. Houston. Refreshments will follow at the American Legion.
The 68th annual Memorial Day services will be held at Wells Valley United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Monday, May 28, 2012. Joe Barrett will be the guest speaker. Musical selections by members of the Forbes Road Band. A light luncheon will be provided after the service. The public is invited to attend.

Vacation Bible School is scheduled at Center United Methodist Church June 11-15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Musical A community musical “Children of Eden” will be presented Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, at Cito United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Church is located at 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in Penn’s Village Shopping Center, will hold a family home evening June 4, at 6 p.m.
Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from
Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m.,
Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Stephen Hoell and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. This trio has shared the stage with numerous of today’s prominent Southern gospel artists nationwide. Together they have dedicated their talent and lives to presenting the gospel through music. Damascus Cemetery Assoc. will celebrate its 76th memorial services Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. Pastor Duane Jensen and the Praise team of Hancock United Methodist Church will provide the message and special music. Lunch will be served in the social room of the church at noon. The trustees of Damascus hope to have the church handicapped accessible by this time. All are welcome.
Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery Association will hold its annual memorial service Sunday, May 20, at Fulton County’s oldest church located on Route 655 just a few miles north of Hancock. Pastor Frank Pilcher of Westview Baptist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., will speak at the 3 p.m. service. Special music will be performed by the New Crossroads Gospel Quartet. Members of this group have toured the East Coast of the U.S. from Maine to Florida as members of various gospel groups in the past. Their music is traditional and Southern gospel style. Services at this historic church are held twice yearly, this memorial service in May and a fall service by Friends of Tonoloway on the first Sunday in October. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m., at Jerusalem Christian Church, located on Old 126, Warfordsburg. Rev. Delmas Bard will be speaker and special music will be by the Darrell Trail family.
The annual Timber Ridge Cemetery Association memorial services normally held on the first Sunday of June has been cancelled. Instead there will be a homecoming celebration held Sunday, July 29. More details will follow at a later date.
Cove Valley Youth Camp will hold a family fun fest Sunday, May 20. A kids carnival and petting zoo will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Cove Valley Cup from 4 p.m .to 5:30 p.m.; trading post from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.; VeggieTales movie at 6 p.m.; and fishing derby from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A cookout will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The camp is located at 5357 Little Cove Road, Mercersburg. Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage Saturday, May 26 at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is invited to come and share talent or just come and enjoy the talent of others.
Two students of voice teacher Richard Overcash will present musical selections at a recital Friday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church auditorium, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle. Hannah Ott and Katelynn Mellott will perform selections. All are welcome and admission is free.
The annual spring festival will be held Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., rain or shine. The event, sponsored by Trinity United Church of Christ, Fort Loudon, will be moved from the community grounds to the pavilion behind the church at 13189 Main Street. Food stand will open at 8 a.m. for breakfast. Sandwiches, soups, drinks and baked goods will be sold. Chicken barbecue will be available at 11:30 a.m. Food can be carried out or enjoyed in the paviion or the church social room. Yard sale items from church members will also be sold. The 22nd annual Strawberry Festival is on schedule for Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. Activities begin at 10 a.m. each day. Good food and fellowship each day. Friday noontime will feature the live music of “Old Friends,” and also after the firemen’s parade. Saturdday morning kicks off with the 5K Strawberry Stampede run/walk at 8:30 a.m. At noon Saturday, the McConnellsburg Fire Co. will sponsor a parade. Also featured will be a Beautiful Baby and Toddler contest, strawberry recipe contest, strawberry capping contest, window decorating contest and strawberry coloring contest for kindergarten and first graders. Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a family friendly hike Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. Meet at the Oregon Camp parking area, Rt. 30 west to Rt. 915 north to Oregon Road. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately two-mile, two-hour hike over relatively flat terrain. The hike will feature the history of the CCC Camp, old turnpike tunnel, railroad bed and arch. Master gardeners from Penn State Fulton County Extension are dedicated volunteers to help with all gardening questions. They are available throughout the week. Mason-Dixon Chapter of Hunters Helping Kids will hold its annual banquet May 19, at Hustontown Firehall. There will be a live and silent auction and small games of chance. All proceeds are tax deductible. All proceeds go to taking kids hunting and education in the outdoors. Mental Health Association of Franklin and Fulton counties will sponsor a workshops on applied suicide intervention skills training Thursday and Friday, June 7 and 8. The workshop will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 W. Commerce Street, Chambersburg, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Fulton County Sportmen’s League will hold its annual open house and fishing rodeo for children 12 and younger at the trout nursery Sunday, May 20. Fishing will start at noon and the drawing for the spring raffle will be at 3 p.m. The food stand will have a variety of foods available including roast pork sandwiches, bean soup, hamburgers and hot dogs.
Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the VFW, 518 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age.
