Damascus Cemetery Assoc. will celebrate its 76th Memorial Day services Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. Pastor Duane Jensen and the Praise team of Hancock United Methodist Church will provide the message and special music. Lunch will be served in the social room of the church at noon. The trustees of Damascus hope to have the church handicapped accessible by this time. All are welcome.
Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Cemetery Association will hold its annual memorial service Sunday, May 20, at Fulton County’s oldest church located on Route 655 just a few miles north of Hancock. Pastor Frank Pilcher of Westview Baptist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., will speak at the 3 p.m. service. Special music will be performed by the New Crossroads Gospel Quartet. Members of this group have toured the east coast of the U.S. from Maine to Florida as members of various gospel groups in the past. Their music is traditional and southern gospel style. Services at this historic church are held twice yearly, this memorial service in May and a fall service by Friends of Tonoloway on the first Sunday in October. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Musical A community musical “Children of Eden” will be presented Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19 at Cito United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Church is located at 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg.
Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute Choir will be at Knobsville Church of the Brethren May 13, at 7 p.m. A freewill offering will be lifted for the c hoir. Concert Steve Hess and Southern Salvation from
Tenn., will be in concert Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m.,
Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville. This nationally known group features baritone vocalist and pianist Steve Hess (nephew of Gospel Music Hall of Famer Jake Hess), lead vocalist Stephen Hoell and native Fulton Countian tenor Chad Riley. This trio has shared the stage with numerous of today’s prominent Southern gospel artists nationwide. Together they have dedicated their talent and lives to presenting the gospel through music. Hershey track and field local meet will be held Saturday, May 12, starting at 4 p.m. at Mc- Connellsburg High School track. This free meet is open to all boys and girls 9-14. The 22nd annual Strawberry Festival is on schedule for Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9. Activities begin at 10 a.m. each day. Good food and fellowship each day. Friday noontime will feature the live music of “Old Friends,” and also after the firemen’s parade. Saturdday morning kicks off with the 5K Strawberry Stampede run/walk at 8:30 a.m. At noon Saturday, the McConnellsburg Fire Co. will sponsor a parade. Also featured will be a Beautiful Baby and Toddler contest, strawberry recipe contest, strawberry capping contest, window decorating contest and strawberry coloring contest for kindergarten and first graders. Fulton County Parks and Recreation will sponsor a family friendly hike Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. Meet at the Oregon Camp parking area, Rt. 30 west to Rt. 915 north to Oregon Road. DCNR’s Shawn Lynn will guide the approximately two-mile, two-hour hike over relatively flat terrain. The hike will feature the history of the CCC Camp, old turnpike tunnel, railroad bed and arch. Anyone wanting to become a pesticide applicator, private or commercial, there will be an exam given on May 16, at 8:30 a.m., in McConnellsburg High School FFA room. This exam will be monitored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Mason-Dixon Chapter of Hunters Helping Kids will hold its annual banquet May 19, at Hustontown Firehall. There will be a live and silent auction and small games of chance. All proceeds are tax deductible. All proceeds go to taking kids hunting and education in the outdoors.
