Wasco Lashinsky Jr. Wood, 89

Wasco Lashinsky Jr., 89, Wood, Pa., died at his home Wednesday, April 25, 2012, following a brief illness.

Born December 29, 1922, in Wood, he was the son of the late Eva (Warholic) and Wasco Lashinsky Sr. He was united in marriage to the former Helen E. “Betty” Crooks June 7, 1947, in Cumberland, Md. She preceded him in death December 16, 2007.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene (Lashinsky) Black and her husband Bill, Wood; and his son, David Lashinsky and his wife Vickie, Broad Top City; six grandchildren: Danyelle Kling and her fiance, Jeff Knepper; Shawna Clark and her husband Scott; Lindsey Black, Nichole Carberry and her husband Sam, Trevor Lashinsky and his wife Erin and Carrie Strayer and her husband Greg; 10 greatgrandchildren: MacKenzie, Jamison, Dawson, Damon, Alayna, Brittney, Dalton, Kaitlyn, Austin and Lucas; three brothers: Paul Lashinsky, Six Mile Run, and Harry and Steve Lashinsky, both of Wood.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Anna Clark, Mary McCue, Helen Miller, and Pete, John and George Lashinsky.

He served in the United States Army in World War II. He received the Good Conduct medal, Meritorious Unit award, Phillippines Liberation ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service medal, two Battle Stars and a Victory medal.

He was a lifetime member of the Robertsdale, Wood & Broad Top Volunteer Fire Co., Saxton Sportsman Association and the American Legion.

He worked in the coal mines for 15 years and then worked construction. Upon his retirement he became part owner of the Twin Gables 1 in Broad Top City.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City. Rev. Jeff Musser officiated. Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top City. Military honors were held by Broad Top Honor Guard.
