SW Pa. Pupils Honored For Calm In Fatal Bus Crash
ROCKWOOD, Pa. (AP) – Twenty-two southwestern Pennsylvania school students whose bus was hit by a soft-drink truck, killing that driver, have been honored for remaining calm during the ordeal.
The Daily American of Somerset reports the students were honored at an assembly Thursday in the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District. All of the students were treated for injuries that ranged in severity but were mostly minor.
A state representative, the school bus contractor and Somerset County dispatcher Alan Baumgardner honored the students with certificates, after Baumgardner noted the students “showed more courage than most people do in a time of emergency.”
The truck driver, 31- year-old Robert Dodson Jr., of Duncansville, died when his truck crossed lanes and collided head-on with the bus on March 14.
