May Is National Foster Care Month

To The Editor:

May is National Foster Care Month. It is a time to come together on behalf of the children who are in foster care while their families are in crisis. No matter their age, these children need a meaningful connection to at least one supportive adult who can become a lasting presence in their lives.

People from all walks of life serve as foster parents. At Pennsylvania MENTOR, we call our foster parents mentors because they wear many hats. They are teachers, friends, family, role models and advocates for the children in their homes. Mentors help children reach their personal goals while providing a safe, nurturing environment in which they can thrive. They help children overcome many challenges and build rewarding relationships that can last a lifetime. Thank you to all of the mentors in the community who are making a difference every day in the lives of the children they serve.

There are still many children in the community who need a caring adult to open their heart and home to them. By becoming a foster parent, you can give back to the community and make a meaningful difference. And, you won’t be alone. As a member of the mentor team, you’ll have support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you are interested in learning more, or may know someone who would make a great foster parent, please contact Pennsylvania Mentor at 717-657- 2073, ext. 29 or visit www.makeadifferenceathome.com.
