McConnellsburg Participates In Invitational

McConnellsburg travelled to Shippensburg University on Saturday where track and field athletes participated in the annual Jack Roddick Invitational. Participating in the Class AA, the Spartans were led by Corey Hill, who placed eighth overall in the 110 hurdles, ninth in the 300 hurdles and ran a leg for the 400-meter relay team. The team of Hill, Hunter Miller, Tony White and Nick Whitsel finished with an overall time of 47.19, which tied for first with Tamaqua. Meanwhile, Ryan Stoeckle garnered third place in the shot put and fourth place in the discus.

McConnellsburg 42

Ryan Stoeckle picked up a pair of wins last Tuesday night to lead the Mc- Connellsburg Spartans against Northern Bedford. Stoeckle racked up firstplace finishes in both the shot put and discus. Meanwhile, Corey Hill took the 100 hurdles, and teammate Alex Keaton was victorious in the 300 hurdles. Nick Whitsel rounded out the meet with a win in the javelin.

16th At Invitational

McConnellsburg recorded a 16th-place finish Saturday when the Lady Spartans travelled to Shippensburg University for the annual Jack Roddick Invitational. The team finished the invitational with 14 points. Merissa Grey garnered a thirdplace finish in the 300 hurdles, while Nikki Fleming was second in the high jump.

Southern Huntingdon 43

McConnellsburg split last Tuesday’s meet against Northern Bedford and Southern Huntingdon with a win over the Rockets. Merissa Grey took the 300 hurdles and ran a leg for the winning 1600 relay team of Nikki Fleming, Hannah Ott and Breanna Worthing. Fleming also took a first-place win in the high jump, while Emily Watkins won both the discus and javelin. The 400-meter relay team of Tierra Lake, Olivia Mills, Jessica Nero and Shania Gelvin rounded out the meet with a win as well.

Forbes Road 5

Friday’s league match-up between McConnellsburg and Forbes Road went eight innings before the Spartans prevailed narrowly by the score of 6-5. Winning pitcher Evan Appleby struck out seven batters, walked one and gave up five unearned runs. Bo Wilson connected for a double for the Spartans. Meanwhile, Tristan Gelvin went six-plus innings on the mound for Forbes Road with eight strikeouts, four walks, 11 hits and five earned runs. It was Casey Wade, who came in on relief and took the loss, however, with five walks, one hit and one earned run.

Southern Fulton 4

The Southern Fulton Indians were handed their second loss of the season Friday night when Everett ran away for a 12-4 Sideling Hill League win. Seth Hall came to the mound in the sixth inning and recorded the loss for the Indians. Hall had two strikeouts, two walks, six hits and four earned runs. Tristan Douglas batted two-forthree for the Indians with a double. Levi Mellott rounded out the day with a tworun homer. Jake Fitz also added a double during the league match.

Fannett-Metal 5

McConnellsburg scored five runs in the fifth inning last Wednesday to cruise to a 11-5 Sideling Hill League victory over Fannett-Metal. Jesse Swope led the Spartans’ offensive effort batting three-for-five with three runs and an RBI. Teammates Evan Appleby, Levi Crouse and Tristin Deneen each contributed two hits. Swope also picked up the win on the mound, striking out four batters and allowing three earned runs.

Southern Fulton 11

Chestnut Ridge 4

After falling behind early on, Southern Fulton rallied for eight runs in the sixth inning last Wednesday to down Chestnut Ridge 11-4. At the plate Jake Fitz batted two-for-three with two RBIs and a triple. Zane Baker went two-for-four. Pitcher Seth Hall recorded the win with three strikeouts, one walk and one hit.

Forbes Road 1

McConnellsburg extended its one-run lead with six runs in the fourth inning to easily down the Forbes Road Lady Cardinals 9-1 Friday. Lady Spartan Gabby Danner clinched her third win of the season after recording three strikeouts, nine hits and one earned run. Danner was also a team leader at the plate going two-for-four with two runs and an RBI. Nicki McQuade and Jessi Pittman both finished out the league matchup with two-run singles. Cardinal pitcher Haley Lashinsky took the loss, going the distance with five strikeouts, four walks, eight hits and seven earned runs.

Southern Fulton 5

Trailing by five runs early on, the Everett Warriors fought valiantly Friday evening to slip by the Southern Fulton Indians 6-5. Dropping the league match, the Lady Indians were led by pitcher Marley Elbin, who tallied seven strikeouts, seven hits and five earned runs over seven innings. Elbin also had the team’s only extra base hit, a two-run double. Teammates Taelor Morton and Jordan Deneen both went two-for-three.

Chestnut Ridge 3

The Southern Fulton Indians scored two runs in the opening inning last Wednesday evening and added two more to squeak out a 4-3 Sideling Hill League win over Chestnut Ridge. Pitcher Marley Elbin recorded the win with six strikeouts, three walks, five hits and two earned runs. Taelor Morton had a perfect day at the plate batting three-for-three, while Kelsey White contributed an RBI double. Jordan Deneen finished two-for-three, which included a double, two runs and an RBI. Maddie Mellott added a hit and an RBI.

Trailing until the fourth inning, Fannett-Metal put together two strong innings to squeeze out a 3-2 Sideling Hill League win over the Mc- Connellsburg Lady Spartans. Gabby Danner was handed the loss after striking out five batters, walking five and giving up three earned runs.
