Gladys L. Williams McConnellsburg, 87

Gladys L. Williams, 87, McConnellsburg, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Fulton County Medical Center, Long-Term Care Unit.

She was born November 22, 1924, in Big Cove Tannery, the daughter of the late John and Jessie (Truax) Yeakel. She was married to Cecil E. Williams in 1962.

Shewas a school teacher graduating from the Hancock High School at the age of 14 in 1939. She graduated from Shippensburg University at the age of 18, attaining a teaching position at the Fort Littleton School immediately. She attained her master’s degree in 1961 from Penn State University. She taught for 38 years in the Fulton County School District, 13 of which were in a oneroomschool. She also substituted for the Tuscarora School District for 26 years until her retirement due to illness in May of 2008.

Shewas a member of the United Church of Christ in McConnellsburg, theHistorical Society of Fulton County, the PA Retired Teachers and the Women’s Club.

She is survived by four sisters-in-law: Carleton Williams of Big Cove Tannery; Wahneeta Kuhn of Mc- Connellsburg; Arietta Mellott of Big Cove Tannery, and Ethel Rider of Eldersburg, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jessie Yeakel, and her husband, CecilWilliams

Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in McConnellsburg. Interment was held at Antioch Cemetery. Rev. E. Loy Garber and Rev. Valaria Schmidt officiated.
