Ernest H. Sipes Hancock, 89

Ernest Henry Sipes, 89, Hancock, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at VA Medical Center Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 9, 1923, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late George B. and Mary E. Beatty Sipes and the husband of the late Wilda Olive Montgomery Sipes, who died December 5, 2006.

Hewas a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army 1943-1946.

He was retired in 1984 from Fairview Orchards near Hancock, as a supervisor

Hewas a member of Webster B. Harrison Post #26 American Legion, Hancock and Loyal Order of the Moose, Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by three daughters: Evangeline J. Shutt of Grove City, Ohio; Betty L. Bowman and Debbie D. Truax, both of Hancock; one son, J. Marvin Sipes of Williamsport, Md.; two sisters: Alice G. Lease of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Pearl Hartman of Keyser, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and 27 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Junior Sipes and Bernard H. Buck Sipes; one daughter, Patsy L. Landers; three brothers: Elmer, Percy and Marvin Sipes; a sister, Nellie Hartman; a grandson, Christopher Landers; a granddaughter, Brenda Ray; and a daughter-inlaw, Grace Sipes.

Services were held Thursday April 19, at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. Rev. John Close officiated. Burial, with military graveside rites by Tri-State Honor Guard, was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
