Thanks To Supporters Of Semper Fi Memorial 5K

To The Editor:

We are humbled and honored to have received so much support for the Semper Fi Memorial in memory of Steven. This was demonstrated by the large turnout at the recent 5K walk / race at McConnellsburg High School. Thanks to the participation and contributions of so many, we are able to continue to provide high school trips to Arlington National Cemetery to county high school students. We can only hope that these trips further our mission of instilling into students the realization that along with freedom, comes sacrifice. We cannot do this without your support and we thank you.

The following have served as sponsors this year for the race and we want to express our sincere gratitude for their contributions:

McConnellsburg High School Class of 2011, Kaplan University - Hagerstown, Country Care Midwifery, F&M Trust, Gabe and Sheila Gates, JLG, Mellott Co., Plum Run Construction, Preceptor Gamma Pi Sorority, Gary Smith, CPA, Gordon’s Water Hauling, MEGSS, Mellott Wood Preserving, S&S Excavating and Hauling, the Cutchall family and Cutchall’s Gulf, Bake’s Garage, Commissioner Craig Cutchall, Randy Ward - Fed Ex, Fulton County Republican Committee, Iota Lambda Chapter - Beta Sigma Phi, LTC Chris Layton and family, the William Baker family, and the Warren Huffer family.

A very special thank-you to Mac Miller and his helpers for coordinating the race this year, as well as Jeremy Hollenshead and Angie Booth for their assistance in pre-race planning and race-day activities. We would also like to recognize the McConnellsburg Fire Police, who assurred that the roads were safe for the runners, and the home economics department of McConnellsburg High School for providing refreshments after the race. A raffle was conducted to raise additional funds, and the supplies were donated by Thirty-One consultant Sheila Gates.

Congratulations to all the participants and medal winners. We especially would like to apologize to Jenna Hollenshead who was not recognized during the awards ceremony due to an oversight when listing the winners on the tally sheet. She was the overall top female finisher and finished ninth overall.

Although Steven’s race for freedom ended over six years ago, it was very heart-warming to see so many continuing to “Run for Freedom.”

Thank you and

Semper Fi,

Nancy and Mike Szwydek
