Great April weather and golf professional Ira Kramer’s return to the pro shop have had Great Cove’s long par-71 course buzzing with activity so far this golfing season.
The first competition of the year, an ABCD scramble, was played Sunday, with the team of Lucas Carbaugh, John Mixell, Denver Trumpower and Toby Souders shooting a 62 to take top honors. Second place went to Jason Long, Mitch Ott, Todd Earley and Rich Sheffield, 64, by match of cards. Foster Earley, Matt Sigel, Dave Tyson and Jim Weaver were awarded third place with a 64, by match of cards, and Ray Wingert, Ron Blair, Clark Brant and Paul Johnston won fourth place with a 64.
Individual prizes went to Bob Paruch, longest drive, No. 1; Ray Wingert, longest drive, No. 2; Pat Shafer, closest to-the-pin, No.4; and Howard Tomlinson, closestto the-pin, No. 12.
On Saturday golfer Brian Long of Richmond Furance aced Great Cove’s 153-yard 12th hole with his 5 iron while playing with his wife, Louann, and son Jason.
Great Cove Men’s League play began last Thursday with 32 two-man teams teeing off in the members only season-long competition. Women’s League, which is open to nonmembers as well as members, begins Wednesday, May 2. Kramer says the women will play a different game format each week and compete as individual players. Participation each week is not required. Each nonmember player pays $14 to ride or $7 to walk.
Also scheduled for this year is a couple’s league that will begin May 18. Couples will meet at the course at 5:45p.m.fora6p.mshotgun start. To date 44 people have signed up for the new league, which Kramer said is intended to be a fun, social event and features a different game format each week. Nonmembers are welcome, and they will pay $15 to ride or $8 to walk per person.
On April 27, the Chamber of Commerce & Tourism’s 5th annual Spring Fever Tournament takes place. The scrambleformat tournie is open to nonmembers as well as members. Cost is $65; shotgun start at 1 p.m. Please call the chamber office at 717- 485-4064 for more information.
Events scheduled in May are a two-day calcutta, May 5 and 6; Fulton County Builder’s Association Tournament, May 18; and the Conner Kids Scholarship Tournament, May 26.
