FR Addresses Personnel Matters
The Forbes Road School District Board of Directors’ agenda for its April meeting included personnel actions as well as other routine business.
The board went into executive session for personnel reasons for about 25 minutes midway through its meeting. All board members were present during the session as well as Superintendent Fred Foster, high school Principal Christina Ramsey, elementary Principal Paul Swope and solicitor Patrick Fanelli. During the last seven minutes of the session, Foster, Ramsey, Swope, Fanellli and board secretary Glenda Wolford were asked to leave the meeting.
After the meeting was reconvened, the board unanimously approved adding Dixie Heacock to the teacher substitute list, and Kara Snyder was added to the secretarial/teacher assistant substitute list. Tara Donahue was named as a long-term substitute for the learning support position effective April 23, 2012, at the daily substitute rate of $90 per day.
The board granted approval to solicit district employees to contribute sick days to a paraprofessional employee who had surgery and whose sick days have expired.
A contract for services was approved to complete PIMS and CAD reports as needed and approved by the superintendent at the rate of $12 per hour not to exceed $4,000 per year. The motion carried by a 6-3 roll-call vote with board members Merrill Arnold, Chanin Mountz and Byron Helsel opposing the motion.
During financial business, the board unanimously approved the Tuscarora Intermediate budget for $3,288,249 for the fiscal year July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013. Foster gave updates on next year’s budget, on the New Day Charter School’s reorganization and on school-age entry for the K4 program.
Gordon Walker attended the meeting to present interest rates, fixed and variable, for the General Obligation Note, Series of 2002. A resolution was adopted authorizing the conversion of all or a portion of the note issued by the district to a loan fixed rate and repealing inconsistent resolutions for the length of one year.
The board approved payment of April bills in the amount of $246,372.37.
The board approved a number of routine agenda items, including: a request from Tawnie House to add a 1999 Chevy Suburban to her list of spare vans; homebound instruction for a student for the remainder of the school year; a request from Carol Cline for use of the field hockey field at the old high school June 5-July 31 on Tuesday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. and for field hockey camp August 6-10 from 8-12 noon for grades 5-12 and 6-8 p.m. for grades 3 and 4; and the tentative 2012-2013 school calendar as presented. The board also approved a request from the Drama Club to present “The Wizard of Oz” musical for next year.
Field trips were approved for senior physical education classes to Juniata River for kayaking on May 4; Varsity Club to a Curve baseball game in Altoona on May 23; band to Wells Valley Church on May 28 for music performance; and Pennies 4 Patients participants to Huntingdon movie theater as a reward for homerooms raising $100 or more for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Various updates were given by the superintendent, the elementary principal and the high school principal.
The Forbes Road School Board holds regular meetings the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 7, 2012.
