2 Fallen Philly Firefighters Honored In Services
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Mayor Michael Nutter says Philadelphia is “a city in pain” because of the loss of two firefighters killed while battling a massive warehouse blaze earlier in the week.
Hundreds of uniformed firefighters and others gathered Saturday for services for 25-year-old firefighter Daniel Sweeney. A private gathering was scheduled for 60- year-old Lt. Robert Neary.
The two were killed Monday when a wall collapsed as they inspected a building adjacent to the burning warehouse. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
A viewing and funeral Mass was held at Saint Cecelia Church in northeast Philadelphia for Sweeney. The service was broadcast for those outside. A motorcade of fire trucks and mourners then escorted his body to burial at a cemetery.
