An international group of religious leaders who organized last year in Japan to protest the growing threat of nuclear war will be arriving in McConnellsburg on Saturday, during their walk across the United States on a World Peace March. The marchers will include several Buddhist monks, Japanese and German Christians, an American Sioux, American Catholics, a Mennonite and a Unitarian.

The search for Debra Ray Witmer on a farm about one mile south of McConnellsburg was called off Tuesday, after some skeletal remains were discovered in the waters of an old limestone quarry in Franklin County about three miles southeast of St. Thomas and about five or six miles from the home of Deb Witmer’s mother, from which the young woman disappeared last May. Police said the skeletal remains have been turned over to the Franklin County Coroner, and they would not make any other comment about the matter until the coroner issues his report.
