Glenn A. Cordell
Glenn A. Cordell, 92, Chambersburg, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at Menno Haven.
He was born near St. Thomas, May 22, 1919, the son of the late Herbert R. and Mazie (Clever) Cordell.
He attended St. Thomas schools. On July 3, 1940, he married Mary Appleby of Marion, Pa., who predeceased him on April 5, 2008. From 1946 to 1979 he was employed as manager of the Frank Walker farm near Stoufferstown where they raised beef cattle. Later he worked at Miller's Orchard and part time for his son at Leonard Cordell Carpentry. Glenn and Mary moved to a retirement cottage at Menno Village in 1997. He enjoyed inviting friends and neighbors to watch his evening primrose flowers opening at dusk each summer. He also trained a robin to take a raisin from his hand. He enjoyed traveling, driving places with the Walkers and later visiting England, Europe, and Israel as well as going on bus trips.
He was a member of Marion Mennonite Church which he attended all his life. He served as trustee and treasurer.
He is survived by two sons: Glenn R. of McConnellsburg; Leonard A. husband of Nancy of Marion; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as three brothers: Irvin of Mercersburg; Merle of Chambersburg; Wayne of Greencastle.
Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
The funeral service was held at Marion Mennonite Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Burial was in Marion Mennonite Church cemetery.
