Port Royal Speedway hit a home run for its Saturday night season opener with temps in the 70’s during the early evening and a huge crowd coming out for the show. And what a show they got.
Despite heavy dust, fans were treated to a thrilling 410 Sprint car feature between Greg Hodnett and Fred Rahmer who battled hard for the top spot. On lap 22 the two made contact in turn two resulting in Rahmer flipping hard.
Hodnett went on to score the win over Daryn Pittman, Chad Layton, Rick Lafferty and Harrisonville’s Mike Wagner, the 2011 track champion.
Pat Cannon won the 358 sprint car season opener over Mark Smith, Ryan Wilson, Davie Franek and Jeff Rohrbaugh.
In just his fourth start in the Keen Motorsports sprinter, Brian Leppo raced home the winner of the 410 Sprint car main Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
Leppo inherited the lead on lap 22 when Jim Siegel crashed and was able to hold off Brian Montieth for the win with Danny Dietrich, Aaron Ott and Alan Krimes completing the top five.
Williams Grove Speedway opens its season this Friday night with 410 Sprints and 358 Sprints while Hagerstown Speedway will open the gates for the first time on Saturday with a regular show of late models, late model sportsman, pure stocks and hobby stocks. Selinsgrove also opens its sprint car season Saturday with the first Mach1 Mid Atlantic 360 sprint series event.
That will do it for another week. E-mail reaches me at Bvores@comcast.net.
