William D. Beatty
William D. “Billy” Beatty, 41, Mount Union, died unexpectedly Monday, March 12, 2012, while coaching youth wrestling in the gymnasium of the old Mount Union Elementary School.
Born July 11, 1970, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late William Bower Beatty and Dixie L. (Hollibaugh) Beatty, who resides in Mount Union. He was united in marriage to the former Judy L. Maynard January 13, 2004, at Fort Littleton. His wife survives at their home.
He is survived by three children, all at home: Bryce William Beatty, Mason Duoise Beatty and Kamden Lynn Beatty.
He is also survived by his sister, Jill L. Sarra, and her husband Dean of Orbisonia.
He was a 1988 graduate of Mount Union Area High School and a 1992 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business management.
Following his formal education, he was employed as a manager for various Arby’s, worked as a foreman at JLG Industries for 15 years, worked as a sales manager for Kinsey Farm Implement Co., was district executive for Boy Scouts of America, North Dakota, and was currently employed as a building manager for Manitowoc, formerly Grove Mfg., at Shady Grove.
He coached Mount Union Little Trojans flag football, coached in the Mount Union youth wrestling organization, coached T-ball and assisted with the Pee Wee Mount Union Youth Baseball League.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. As a youth, he was involved in scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 13. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor and for his loving devotion as a husband and father.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Rev. Kenny Sipes officiated. Interment was made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg.
