William C. Snyder

William C. Snyder, 86, Shippensburg, died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Homewood of Martinsburg.

Born July 13, 1925, in Six Mile Run, he was the son of the late William B. Snyder and the late Alda M. (Lynn) Snyder of Defiance.

He was united in marriage to Patricia J. Winter on June 30, 1951. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, on March 7, 2010.

He is survived by a sister, L. Carol Brown, and husband of Gary of Cassville.

Preceding him in death were brothers: Doyle, George, Richard and Earl.

He was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church of Shippensburg and the Methodist Church of Defiance. A veteran of World War II serving as a member of the Army Air Force stationed on the island of Guam in the Pacific, he participated in the air campaign against Japan.

He graduated from Shippensburg University and taught in the fields of chemistry, physics and mathematics at McConnellsburg High School in the 1950s.

He took work in his masters and doctorial programs at Pennsylvania State University in the disciplines of mathematics and physics and was a professor in these disciplines at Shippensburg University for 28 years. Late in his tenure, he was the director of the computer center at the university.

At his request there will be no viewing or services other than a short graveside service at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at St. Paul’s Reform Cemetery, Yellow Creek.

A memoriam may be given to a nonprofit organization of the donor’s choice.
