Ag Students Participate In Butchering Day
The pigs were butchered the Saturday before and were ready for the kids to begin butchering first thing Monday morning. Throughout the eight periods, every ag student got the chance to participate in helping prepare many different cuts of pork and learn how to make sausage and scrapple.
Buck Younker was there to assist every step of the way and demonstrate the tricks of the trade. “Many kids have never had the opportunity to help out with something like this, so it was good to give them the connection between the farm and the store,” says Kristin Hawbaker, McConnellsburg chapter president.
The students had a memorable day fulfilling the second line of the FFA motto: “Doing to Learn.”
