Deaths: George

Fisher of Thompson Township, who died in a fire that destroyed his home on March 8; Mrs. Mary Catherine Bedford of Parsons, W.Va.; Mrs. Grace Karns McDaniel of Alexandria, Pa.; Mrs. Frank H. Benson of Newburg, Pa.

Jordon Potts, 43, Green Ridge, a former resident of Buck Valley, sustained fatal injuries on Wednesday morning of last week while successfully rescuing his 17- year-old daughter, Grace, from their burning home. Mr. Potts, on discovering his daughter was asleep, rushed to awaken her and received burns so severe he died the following morning in the Allegheny Hospital. He was married to the former Mary Ray of Buck Valley.

Robert Betty, son of Dr. R.F. Betty, formerly of Buck Valley, was awarded an $800 scholarship to the Washington Square College of New York University.

John Calvin Gates Jr. and Helen Beatrice Barton were married March 16.

Born: a daughter on March 20 to Mr. and Mrs. Luther Stinson.

Deaths: Mrs. Elizabeth Glunt Brubaker of Knobsville; John Hoover of Hiram.

George Miller of Buck Valley broke his leg a few weeks ago.

Marshall Lynch of Brush Creek Township and Leslie W. Seylar of McConnellsburg announce their candidacy for the nomination for representative in the General Assembly on the Democratic and Republican tickets, respectively.
