Windy Weather Causes Power Outages In Western Pa.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Windy weather in western Pennsylvania has led to power outages for thousands of customers and forced the early closure of a shopping center.

The Mall at Robinson in Pittsburgh closed early on Friday night because it lost electricity. Strong winds toppled a gas station canopy in Ford City.

Gusts of nearly 60 mph have been reported in the Pittsburgh area. Power outages were reported across Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Westmoreland and Washington counties.

In eastern Pennsylvania, Allentown-based PPL Corp. released a statement Friday saying it was preparing for outages.

The company cited weather forecasts calling for sustained winds of 35 mph through early Saturday, and gusts possibly reaching 60 mph.
