Fulton County Conservation District is currently taking orders for its annual tree sale. A large variety of fruit, nut, ornamental and forestation trees are available. Also available are strawberries, blueberries, grapes, rhubarb and asparagus. Deadline for all orders is March 9, 2012. Profits from the tree seedling sale are used to support environmental education efforts within Fulton County.
Fulton County Cooperative Extension will conduct the following pesticide update trainings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Adhere to the school calendar, so if school is canceled, or has early dismissal, the meeting will be rescheduled: March 21 – Forbes Road High School; and March 22 – Southern Fulton High School. Southern Fulton Elementary School and Head Start pre-K will hold registration Tuesday, March 27. Call 717-294-3400 to register your child. Must be age 3 or 4 by September 1.
Fulton County Youth Livestock Show and Sale Committee has approved the addition of a 4-H/FFA youth market meat goat show at the Fulton County Fair beginning this fair season 2012. Youths must be an active, enrolled 4-H or FFA member to be eligible to show. Please contact the Extension Office or FFA advisor for additional information by March 1, 2012.
Central Fulton School District will hold registration for the 2012-2012 school year Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 27, 28 and 29. Children who will be age 4 on or before August 20 are eligible for the 4K program and children who will be age 5 or on or before August 20 are eligible for the 5K (kindergarten) program. Please note that students who are currently enrolled in the 4K program do not need to reregister for 5K. Please contact Stacy Morton at 485- 7072 to schedule an appointment.
The Hunter/Trapper course will be held Thursday, March 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club, McConnellsburg. This is the first of three traditional courses for Fulton County. Bring a bag lunch for Saturday. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Southern Fulton School District will hold kindergarten registration March 1, for those children of the district who have reached their fifth birthday before September 1, 2011. First-grade registration and testing will be by appointment for those children who will be six years of age before September 1 and are not presently enrolled in the district’s kindergarten program. If you have a child eligible for either class and have not received a registration letter, please contact the school at 294-3400.

4-H Spring Fundraiser Marianna’s Hoagies & Pizza
Marianna’s fundraiser paperwork is now available, please see your 4-H leader to pick up or stop in the office. Any child who sells at least 10 items will have their dues covered by their club. Delivery date is April 25. Deadline for orders is April 11. Please get paperwork to your leader in advance. The office will not accept paperwork that is incomplete. It is your responsibility to tally up your order and make sure the money is all collected prior to turning in your order to your leader. Please make fundraiser checks payable to PDC.
55-ALIVE DRIVING CLASS
The classroom refresher course for 55-ALIVE/Mature driving will be offered at Warfordsburg Senior Center March 29 and 30. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by mailing the check, payable to AARP for $14 (per person nonmember) or $12 (per person AARP member), to Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the three-year auto insurance discounts. If planning on staying for lunch, following the class, please be sure to let Cindy know at 294-6020 one day in advance or when registering. There are no tests involved.
Fulton County Master Gardeners will conduct a backyard fruit workshop Saturday, March 31, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the community room of Community State Bank of Orbisonia, located at 415 Fulton Drive, McConnellsburg. Teaching, selecting, growing and maintaining fruit bearing plants, strawberries, blueberries and brambles (raspberries and blackberries) Cost for the workshop is $10. Fulton County Master Gardeners invite the public to participate in a new community Victory Garden in McConnellsburg. The Victory Garden offers a weekly, summer long class from April to September. Class members learn and participate in the process of vegetable gardening. A combination of weekly classes, hands-on work in the garden and the reward of taking your own produce. AARP-TCE Free Tax Help
Free tax help and e-filing for taxpayers with low or middle income of any age, not just elderly, will be available at Fulton Theatre, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. February 1 to April 11. Volunteers will prepare federal, state, local and rent and property tax rebate. Please bring last year’s income tax returns, current year’s tax forms such as W-2s, 1099-int., 1099- Div. 1099-B, 1099-R, Society Security, etc. Must have last year’s taxes to be able to e-file. March Lunch & Learn
March lunch and learn will be held March 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pearl Room of Fulton County Medical Center. Join other community dads for the next lunch and learn series. Doctor Dad will be held March 24, at 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Fulton Theatre in McConnellsburg. Come join the Center for Families to learn more about keeping children healthy. The Doctor Dad workshop will show you tips and tricks on preventing illness and injury as well as advice on how to care for a sick or hurt child. This free workshop includes lunch and everything.
