Beverly I. Smith
Beverly Irene McElrath Smith, 82, McConnellsburg, died Sunday, February 19, 2012.
She was born March 4, 1929, in Newton Falls, Ohio. She was the wife of Walter G. Smith, whom she married February 11, 1961, and resided with in McConnellsburg.
She retired as a lead sheet metal mechanic from Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown after many years of service. She also was a partner in the former Smith’s Gas Service with her husband.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was an active member of Cito United Methodist Church and her community.
She volunteered with the Red Cross and loved to watch the deer and birds from her windows. She raised elkhound dogs which she also enjoyed. She had many friends and extended family and loved them all.
She was preceded in death by Walter Smith, her husband; her parents, a stepdaughter, Shirley Fagen; an infant son, John Smith; an infant sister and a brother Bill McElrath.
She is survived by a son, William Smith, husband of Judy; a stepdaughter, Carole Reel; a stepson, Harry Smith; a stepdaughter, Sandra Souders, wife of Glen; 10 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren; siblings: Leah Shifflett, Baltimore; Alice Phillips, Newton Falls, Ohio; James Mahan, Bristolville, Ohio; Marilyn Paylor, Warfordsburg; and Catherine Mahan, Rocky River, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at Cito United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 23, at 7 p.m., with Pastor John Godissart presiding. Prior to the service at 5:30 in the fellowship hall, a meal will be served. There will be no viewing and the burial is to be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fulton County Relay For Life or to the Cito United Methodist Church building fund.
