Sympathy goes out to the families of William “Bill” Winslow and Evelyn Strait, who passed away last week, and Beverly Smith, who passed away on Sunday.

Bobbie and Selena Johnson celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary on February 14.

Marian “Skip” Carbaugh is now a resident in PennKnoll at Everett. She will be 82 on February 25.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Tristan Gelvin, Forbes Road; Tyler Green and Libby Strayer, McConnellsburg; Jenna Hollenshead and Brayden Litton, Southern Fulton, all for basketball.

It was a great turnout, around 350, for the benefit dinner for Roger Sowers at McConnellsburg VFW on Sunday. Roger will have heart surgery later this month in Harrisburg. Please keep him in your prayers. The meal was delicious.

Donald and Doris Ray will observer their 65th wedding anniversary March 1.

Ron “Buck” and Carol Richards will observe their 51st wedding anniversary on February 27.

February’s weather was more like spring than winter. March will probably bring snow.

Chris Strait, formerly of Harrisonville, is the crew chief for race car driver Danny Lasoski, who won two feature wins and one all-star and one outlaw win at Volusia Speedway in Florida recently.

Rhoda Sowers celebrated her 81st birthday on Saturday with a surprise party given by her family at Ryan’s in Chambersburg. Family members attending were sisters Bonnie Laidy of Johnstown and Rosetta Prough and family of Dillsburg, Jean Sherman and family of Harrisburg, Mack Clevenger and her sons, Mike and Dave, and families of town.

It Happened This Week: In 1903 the first “teddy” bear sold on February 15. It got its name from Teddy Roosevelt, the president.

Country Shortcuts: Before you put the bag in a trash can, fold several sheets of newspaper and lay them in the bottom. They’ll absorb any spills, get rid of odors and become stained.
