Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

The 2012 racing season officially is under way after Screven Motor Speedway in Georgia opened with the World of Outlaws Late Models and the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars last weekend.

Darrell Lanigan kicked off the WoO Late Model series with a big $20,000 victory in Saturday night’s Winter Freeze on a literally frozen Screven racing surface.

Lanigan defeated Ray Cook, defending WoO Champ Rick Eckert, Josh Richards and Shane Clanton for the big win.

The UNOH All- Star Sprints saw Pennsylvania regular Daryn Pittman score the Friday night feature win over David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, Mark Smith and Aaron Ott.

In Saturday’s All-Star feature, NASCAR champion Tony Stewart came away with the big win over Jason Sides, Cody Darrah, Terry McCarl and Joey Saldana.

The All-Star Sprints head to Volusia Speedway Park for action this week joined by the World of Outlaws Sprint cars. Racing begins tonight and continues through Sunday.

The WoO Late Models head to the Bubba Raceway Park next weekend for three events before heading to Volusia the following week.

In just over one week, Lincoln Speedway will open the gates on the 2012 racing season as the 410 Sprints will take center stage on February 25. If the weather continues on this pace, it’s a good bet Lincoln will get in its opener and there are a lot of folks ready for the season to begin.
