Homeowner Grabs Shotgun, Scares Burglars

MARS, Pa. (AP) – Police say a homeowner surprised three would-be burglars at his house and scared them away with a shotgun.

The Butler Eagle reports that Barry Baur saw the alleged burglars in his driveway Thursday afternoon.

Baur ran to his bedroom, grabbed a shotgun and fired two shots at the suspects’ getaway car, hitting it at least once.

Police officers stopped the alleged burglars in their 2011 BMW sedan a short time later, and 21-year-old Harwinder S. Sandhu, 18-year-old Jason C. Sheppard and an unidentified 15-year-old are charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy, and criminal mischief.

The paper says Harwinder and Sheppard are in Butler County Prison with bail set at $50,000. The other defendant was turned over to juvenile authorities.

Attorneys for the men couldn’t be determined.
