The coldest spell of the winter was felt here over the weekend with temperatures registering near zero in parts of the county early Monday morning.

McConnellsburg plant of JLG Industries and the surrounding community will be the focus of a story to appear soon in the national news magazine “U.S. News & World Report.” A staff member of the magazine has been in the McConnellsburg area this week speaking with JLG officials and area business and community leaders in preparation for the story which could appear in the magazine in two or three weeks. The article is to look at the overall impact of the nation’s economy on JLG and the local community in times of boom and bust.

A letter written by a former resident to the Appalachian States Low-Level Radioactive Waste Commission has prompted a reassurance that Fulton County has not already been targeted as a site for a lowlevel radioactive waste disposal facility. Larry Barnhart of Wilmington, Del., a former resident of southern Fulton County, wrote a letter to the commission and received the response.

Philip Lake, 12, Hustontown, remains a patient at Hershey Medical Center this week. He has been hospitalized the past four weeks as he continues his battle against leukemia.

Lt. Vincent Joyce Sr., who served for several years with the McConnellsburg State Police prior to 1987, is one of 245 graduates of the F.B.I. National Academy Program at Quantico, Va.

Jeff Wooldridge, a senior guard at Southern Fulton High School, scored his 1,000th point for his varsity basketball career February 7. He was presented the game ball and a plaque immediately after scoring the point.

Births at the Medical Center: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony DeShong of Harrisonville on January 31; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Allen Martz of McConnellsburg on February 3.

Tom and Melinda Howells, McConnellsburg, and Rodger Seville of St. Thomas are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Christy, to Lance Cpl. John Boehme III, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Boehme Jr. of Venetia, Pa.

Michele Ann Utech and Jeffrey Lynn Garber were married December 27, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Gary Utech and Mr. and Mrs. E. Loy Garber.

Cory and Janay Shaw of Hustontown announce the birth of a son, Nathan Lynn, February 8 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
