Ruth M. Richards
Mrs. Ruth M. Richards, 85, McConnellsburg, died at 9:15 p.m., Sunday February 5, 2012, at Fulton County Medical Center, Extended Care Unit, in McConnellsburg.
Born May 26, 1926, in Fort Littleton, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Marie McCoy.
Two brothers, Ralph and Fred McCoy, preceded her in passing.
She was the last of her immediate family.
She and her husband, S. Lee “Dude” Richards, were married on February 21, 1945, and he resides at the farm home they shared for more than 63 years.
She was a farm wife who served as the state president of the Society of PA Farm Women in the 1970s. She also formerly owned the Palmer Insurance Agency. After graduation from high school in 1943, she worked at Letterkenny Army Depot until her marriage in 1945. She will be remembered as a lady with great determination to accomplish many things in her life. She was an avid mushroom hunter until she could no longer walk in the mountains.
She was a member of Cito United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.
Her surviving family are two sons: Ronald Lee (husband of Connie) Richards and Marvin “Jake” (husband of Sandy) Richards, both of McConnellsburg; three grandaughters; two grandsons; four great-grandaughters; two great-grandsons and two step-grandaughters and one step-great-grandson.
An evening of visitation will be held at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in Mc- Connellsburg, Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Friday, February 10, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at Union Cemetery with the Rev. John Godissart and Rev. Richard Bernard officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Fulton County Medical Center Foundation in honor of the staff on the Shimer Trail (214 Peach Orchard Road, Mc- Connellsburg, PA 17233) who provided such loving care to her the past four years.
