Charles L.Wright Jr.,74, Baltimore, Md., died Monday, January 23, 2012, of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease, at his home.

He was born September 25, 1937, in Baltimore.

After graduating from City College in 1955 he served for four years in the Air Force in weather reconnaissance.

He worked as a salesman for the old Warner Paper co. and later its successor company International Paper Co. He retired in 2011 from Ray’s Envelopes.

He taught Red Cross swimming, lifesaving, CPR and first aid courses for years. He was a member of the Red Cross Hall of Fame. For the last 34 years he was supervisor of the Rosedale Recreation council swimming program. He also taught swimming at the Community College of Baltimore County’s Essex campus.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. (DeShong), originally from Needmore. They were married at Sideling Hill Christian Church on July 1, 1961.

Surviving are a son, Charles L. Wright III, Baltimore; a daughter, Cindy Spurgeon, Cincinnati, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Friday, January 27, at the Miller-Dippel Funeral Home, Balti- more.
