Ex-NE Pa. County Officials In Court For Sentencing
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) – Two former county commissioners from northeastern Pennsylvania will soon learn how long they'll spend in prison for their convictions on public corruption charges.
Sentencing is under way for former Lackwanna County Commissioners Robert Cordaro and A.J. Munchak.
Cordaro was convicted on 18 counts and Munchak eight in June. Authorities say they took bribes from companies seeking county business and extorted companies that held lucrative government contracts.
A federal judge in Scranton said Monday that sentencing guidelines for Cordaro call for a prison term ranging from than 15 years to more than 19 years in prison. Munchak could get about eight to 10 years under the guidelines.
