Bomb-Sniffing Dog Recovering At State University
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Lex, the former bomb-sniffing dog of the late Marine Cpl. Dustin Lee of Stonewall, is undergoing rehabilitation at Mississippi State University.
Dr. John Thomason, at MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, tells WCBI-TV that the German Shepherd starts rehab every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in an indoor, underwater doggie treadmill.
Lex was working with Lee when the Marine was killed during a bombing in Iraq in 2007. Lex received a Purple Heart for his injuries. Lex has been retired and lives with Lee’s family in Clarke County.
Now 11, Lex’s recovery continues.
His injuries won’t allow him stand for long periods of time. Lex will need physical therapy for the rest of his life.
